Constrcution of 13 bridges over the Adelaide River Floodplains to increase the flood immunity of the Arnhem Highway
The project
Awarded the construction of the 13 bridges over the Adelaide River Floodplain, Advance Civil Enginering delivered the bridge construction along side Allan Kings and Sons, another local Darwin company who completed the civil works.
The 13 bridges was awarded based on an alternative design submitted at tender, the alternative design saved the project approximatly $5M from what was originally specified.
Working along side Allan Kings and Sons, engaged under seperate contracts with the NTG, has foster a strong working relationship which has has become invaluable in continueing works.
The Scope of works include:
In-house fabrication of the 376No. reinforced concrete driven piles, 44No. strut beams and 381No. prestressed concrete bridge beams
Driving of the 400x400mm piles up to 28m into the ground to be founded on the underlying rock.
Construct the 13No. bridge substructure including the abutments and blade wall piers.
Transport, handing and placing of the fabricated prestressed brigde beams.
Construction of the concrete deck. Early morning pour of the concrete to reduce the concrete tempreture in the setting concrete.
Construction of the bridge rail and expansion joints.
over the 22 Spans across the 13 bridges, there was a total of 12,600 tons of concrete used with 6,700 tons poured on site.
The strong working relationship between Allan Kings and Advance was crucial to the successful delivery of this project.
