Advance Civil Engineering were the successful tenderers for this project which saw the existing culvert crossing replaced with a 3 span, dual lane bridge with a separate cycle path.
The Robinson Road connects the two sections of Borroloola. During a significant rainfall event, the Rocky Creek would be inundated closing the road. The alternative route to connect the sections of Borroloola is a 30km trip each way.
The construction of the new bridge greatly increases the flood immunity of the bridge reducing closure frequencies and durations.
The project aspects include:
- Construction of the 3 span bridge with two traffic lanes and a cycle path.
- Increasing the flood immunity of the crossing by raising the road surface over one metre and increasing the open flow area under the road.
- Approximatly 400m of road works for the new alignment.
- Modification of the street lighting.
- Batter protection of the bridge approaches.
