Beatrice Hill Bridge

Construction of the Beatrice Hill Bridge to increase the flood immunity of the Arnhem Highway

The project

The Bridge Construction over Adeliade River Flood Plains to the West of Beatrice Hill was Stage 2 of the flood immunity upgrade of the Arnhem Highway.
As a continuation of Stage 1, Advance Civil Engineering and Allan Kings and Sons, two darwin local companies combined to deliver the bridge construction and 8km of road works.
The bridge design was as per our Stage 1 design which saw the construction of 13 bridges across the Adelaide River Flood Plains to the East of the Beatrice Hill Project Site.

The Scope of works include:
  • In-house fabrication of the reinforced concrete driven piles, strut beams and prestressed concrete bridge beams
  • Driving of the 400x400mm piles up to 22m into the ground to be founded on the underlying rock.
  • Construct the bridge substructure including the abutments and three blade wall piers.
  • Transport, handing and placing of the fabricated prestressed brigde beams.
  • Construction of the concrete deck. Early morning pour of the concrete to reduce the concrete tempreture in the setting concrete.
  • Construction of the bridge rail and expansion joints.
The strong working relationship between Allan Kings and Advance was crucial to the successful delivery of this project.
